Kia is preparing for one of its busiest years in the Indian market, with two new SUVs planned for launch between 2026 and 2027. The introduction of the Sorento 7-seater and the all-electric Syros EV marks the brand’s next step in expanding its premium and electric lineup. Both models have been undergoing internal development, and early details already hint at strong competition for established players in their respective segments.

Kia Sorento 7-Seater: India-Focused Testing Underway

Kia has begun testing the Sorento 7-seater SUV on Indian roads, signalling that the model is moving closer to its market debut. The brand is preparing the Sorento as a three-row hybrid SUV, positioning it as a direct rival to popular family SUVs such as the Mahindra XUV 7XO and the Tata Safari.

The Sorento is expected to reach Indian showrooms by the end of 2026. Internationally, the model features a large footprint, measuring 4815mm in length, 1900mm in width, and 1700mm in height, supported by a 2815mm wheelbase. These dimensions suggest a spacious cabin with enough room for adults across all three rows.

Inside, the SUV is likely to follow Kia’s modern global design language. The cabin may include dual 12.3-inch displays, a panoramic sunroof, powered and ventilated front seats, a gesture-controlled powered tailgate, a 360-degree camera system, and a head-up display. Together, these features place the Sorento firmly in the premium three-row segment.

Globally, the Sorento is sold with multiple hybrid powertrains, including a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol hybrid, a 1.6-litre plug-in hybrid, and a 2.2-litre diesel hybrid. Depending on the region, these engines are paired with either a 6-speed automatic or an 8-speed DCT, along with an all-wheel-drive system. While the exact engine for India has not been revealed yet, the hybrid setup is expected to be the main highlight.

Kia Syros EV: Electric Version to Arrive Before the ICE Model

Kia will introduce the Syros EV in mid-2026, likely around June or July. Interestingly, the EV will launch alongside the Syros petrol version, giving buyers both electric and internal-combustion choices from day one. Kia is expected to position the Syros EV between Rs 14 lakh and Rs 18 lakh, making it one of the more accessible electric SUVs in its category.

The Syros EV will share its overall silhouette with the ICE model but will feature EV-specific styling. This includes a closed front fascia, lime-green brake callipers, and a charging port placed on the front fender. These subtle design cues help distinguish the EV without changing the SUV’s familiar shape.

Feature-wise, Kia is preparing a premium package for the Syros EV. The SUV is expected to offer dual 12.3-inch screens, ventilated seats in both rows, a powered driver’s seat, reclining second-row seats, a panoramic sunroof, LEVEL-2 ADAS, and a 360-degree camera view. These additions place the Syros EV well above typical compact EVs in terms of equipment.

Under the skin, the Syros EV is likely to use Kia’s K1 platform, similar to the architecture used by the Hyundai Inster EV. This setup supports front-wheel drive and offers multiple battery configurations. The Syros EV may borrow 42kWh and 49kWh battery packs, which could deliver a certified range of up to 400km on a single charge, depending on the variant.

Final Thoughts

Kia’s plan to introduce the Sorento 7-seater and Syros EV in 2026–27 shows the brand’s growing commitment to both premium SUVs and electric mobility in India. The Sorento brings a spacious hybrid option to families seeking a refined three-row vehicle, while the Syros EV strengthens Kia’s presence in the affordable electric SUV segment. With modern features, strong performance expectations, and competitive pricing, both models are shaping up to be important additions to India’s rapidly evolving SUV market.
